Just reading the few active threads in this one little sub section it is a big time turn off. But the amount of ill mannered responses on this forum as opposed to others if in my mind ridiculous. Some of the forums I frequent have 10 times the amount of members of this one and are about as equal or even less in being contentious. I am a member of multiple non magic related forums of interest to me. I was fixated on how these magicians where using the extra piece. On to the Café where I was told to get rid of it and I was also told basically that I was an idiot and to find something else to do.įor whatever reason it didn’t dawn on me after watching the magicians on youtube and before posting here how to use it without the extra piece. That’s when I headed to youtube to watch and hopefully pick up what the magicians where doing with the extra piece but didn’t think they where using it. Thing is, I couldn’t get the extra piece in place and I still don’t see how one accomplishes this with two hands much less one! My immediate thought was it’s obvious how this works. I want to make something clear here, I received a collapsed wand with an extra piece and NO instructions. The mighty fool answered my question via a PM and boy do I feel stooooopid! George, thank you for your detailed response. With the wand it is simply this, have it collapse from vertical the first 2 times and the last time hold it horizontaly and get them to hold it in the middle. An aspect of the rule of three that a lot of people miss is that you do the same thing twice then the third time there is a twist. Which is daft because you can get laughs without doing that at all. This is because some tit has used the wand thoughtlessly and make the child look stupid for easy laughs. On other occasions I have found children do not want to take the wand as soon as they see it and sometimes get visibly anxious. When I use it the first time, I quickly point out that it's a joke wand so they don't think they've broken it then boast about how good I am at fixing them so the jokes on me when it breaks a second time.Įven though I have covered all the basis a few years ago before I said "don't worry it's a joke wand" someone's Granny shouted out "Oi! Elisha, you've broken the magician's wand" and the child immediatley became upset. So unless you can reprimand them for breaking a wand in a way that lets them clearly know you are joking or playfully teasing them don't do it. When a child breaks something they are usually in trouble. Of course I was joking above, but my point was that you do the opposite of this (unless confronted by a particularily annoying 9 year old). I'd not use it starting out though but maybe try adding it in when you're confident with the wand. It means you can handle it more easily beforehand so the first break is more of a surprise then you ditch it and carry on as normal. I think noone uses them because they get lost and the wand is still funny without it so we don't bother to buy a new bit (Well I know I don't).But handled correctly it doesn't detract from any of the usual gags (it is harder to handle). You get the child to hold it just above your thumb, straight up and it collapses as you turn away. The white bit is held in your fingers and the first black piece is pushed away from the end with your thumb and first finger causing it to ridgidicate. Don't worry CF, plenty of professionals have never asked and have been doing it wrong for years!
